Rose-Marie Dery Jones
Rose-Marie D. Jones passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 10, 2022, at the age of 87. She had been a resident at Foulkeways at Gwynedd for ten years. Rose-Marie was born November 5, 1934, in Charleston, WV and was the daughter of Jean-Marie Dery and Velma Smith Dery. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert S. Jones, III, and her daughter, Suzanne M. Jones. Rose-Marie is survived by her children, Robert S. (husband of Kathleen), Stuart E. (husband of Barbara L.), Christopher K. (husband of Marta) and five grandchildren (Elisabeth Perrin, Thaddeus, Dorothy, Woodrow and Emily).
Rose-Marie spent her childhood growing up in Charleston, WV and Newport News, VA surrounded by extended family. During her high school years, she lived in Arlington, VA, and attended Holy Trinity High School for Girls in Georgetown. After one year at Mary Washington College, she found her vocation in nursing and transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital Nursing School, graduating in the Nursing Class of 1956.
She married and settled in Flourtown, PA, later moving to Lafayette Hill. When all her children were in school, Rose-Marie returned to nursing. She started as a shift nurse in the medical center at Foulkeways at Gwynedd, later became assistant Director of Nursing and retired as the Director of Nursing, after more than 30 years of service.
Rose-Marie had many hobbies, including playing bridge, book clubs, gardening, and, in retirement, breeding and showing prize Golden Retrievers. She also especially loved travel. In 1963, at the age of 29, she took her (then) three children on the journey from Flourtown to Benghazi, Libya to visit her parents. In later years, she travelled widely to Greece, Switzerland, Colombia, El Salvador, Turkey, Egypt and Jordan. Rose-Marie also enjoyed spending summers at her cottage on Lake Paupac in Greentown, PA, surrounded by her grandchildren, who were her greatest source of joy, and her dogs. She was also active in several committees at Lake Paupac Club.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 428 S. Main St., North Wales, PA 19454, at 10 am on Saturday, September 24, 2022. She will be interred at Abington Friends Meeting House Cemetery next to her late husband.
