Relatives and friends are invited to Patricia’s visitation on Monday, April 15th, 2024 from 9:30am to 10:30am at Holy Martyrs Church in Oreland, PA. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am. Pat shall then be laid to rest with Peace and Mercy from God at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Patricia’s name may be made to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.
Patricia was a beloved mother of Alexander and Sarah McDermott. Pat with Michael McDermott, adopted Alex and Sarah from Siberia, Russia in August of 1997. Pat was a champion in being a Mother: raising Alex and Sarah with integrity, morals, kindness, respect, humanity, care, love and faith. God instilled Patricia with a Holy Spirit unlike any other, because anyone who knew Pat understood the meaning of compassion, joy, forgiveness, hard work, humor, patience, and sweetness. She loved the ocean, particularly the sounds of serene waves from Long Beach Island where the Bishof family had a small cottage a block down from the coast. When she went on a Dialysis Cruise for her 64th birthday, she stated, “the sound of the ocean gives me peace.”
From her early childhood to her final days, Pat baked goods and cooked magnificent recipes, particularly from the Bishof Family Recipe Cookbook. She kept alive the Bishof Family recipes by baking cakes including the legendary Waldorf-Astoria Chocolate Cake and homemade Macaroni and Cheese. She baked for her son’s wedding and wedding reception. She cooked and baked for her daughter’s birthday and graduation celebrations. Pat loved hosting celebrations for holidays, birthdays, and wondrous achievements where her passion for cooking and baking would leave an everlasting positive mark (and taste) to those privileged of thee delight.
The kind of dignity and character of Patricia is as rare as a gemstone in a wondrous high mountain but as powerful as the vast blue sea, actually she preferred purple… lets say purple sea! Pat worked as a registered nurse for 35 years. Her commitment to heal and care for the ill and less fortunate was primarily at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Patients and co-workers (in whom are dear friends today and forever-more of Pat) have felt and continue to feel the legacy from her touch and care with prime ingredients of benevolence and empathy.
May God bestow His highest Mercy, Peace, Forgiveness, and Love to Patricia McDermott. May we be kept reminded of Pat’s legacy through the howling waves of the ocean that she dearly embraced… whether short distance or as an enchanting echo (she loved to sing for choir at church)- let be and long live tribunes, remembrances, and prayers for Patricia McDermott’s soul. We the son and daughter, We the family, We the dear friends, We the patients and co-workers, We the ocean, and We the cat and dog companions (Ricky, Chelsea, Robin, Jessie, Gracie, and Minnie) that too have felt care and love from Pat… shall forever Praise God for Patricia the Mother, Patricia the Cook and Baker, Patricia the Dear Friend, and Patricia the Rescuer, in the name of Jesus, Amen!
So sorry to hear of your passing. I enjoyed working the night shift at Hahnemann.. I hope and pray you are at peace. I’m sorry I did not get to say goodbye to you. May you find your peace now. I will pray for Alex and Sarah and hope they find strength and comfort. May God always be with you my friend.
Sorry for your loss will keep your family in my prayers
