Mary E. Craddock
Craddock, Mary E. (nee Williams) (January 9, 2025). Beloved wife of the late Claiborne Craddock. Loving mother to Kimberly (Ron Damiani Jr.) Craddock. Relatives and friends are invited to Mary’s Visitation Thursday, 9 to 10am at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5421 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19144. Her funeral service will follow at 10am. Interment will be private.
Mary Craddock was born on February 14, 1932, the youngest of Edna and John Williams’ 7 children (John Jr. Alice, George, Clinton, Shirley, and Gurnell). She lived in various parts of Philadelphia, eventually settling in Mt. Airy with her husband, Claiborne.
The saying “live the dash” is what Mary did. She was a teacher in the School District of Philadelphia, and before she retired in 1997, she had taught elementary grades, secondary grades, and adult civil service classes and worked as a school psychologist. She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.
Claiborne passed away January 30, 1980. After his passing, Mary devoted herself to raising her daughter, Kim. She truly was a super mom in every sense of the word. Mary spent a lot of time taking Kim to figure skating lessons, learning to skate herself, travelling internationally (her favorite country was Switzerland), and eventually living abroad in Switzerland with Kim for a year.
Mary made sure that Kim received the best of what life had to offer. She was the best mom to Kim, and to Kim’s friends. “Mrs. C.”, “Mrs. Kimi”, “Mother Mary”, and “Aunt Mary” were some of her titles.
She will be missed by her family, extended family, and many friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Mary’s name may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5421 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19144 or Chestnut Hill College, 9601 Germantown Avenue; Philadelphia PA 19118.
Mother Mary your kindness and gracious spirt will be greatly missed. Enjoy your family reunion! ????????????????
