Marcia W. Campbell
Marcia W. Campbell left us peacefully in the company of her sons on December 7, 2024.
A woman of many passions, she held onto her curiosity until the end.
Marcia was skilled in the arts and practiced metal work, painting and photography. She created beautiful silver sculptures, repousse works, botanical drawings and photographs. Her love for horticulture focussed on roses, succulents and orchids while simultaneously supporting her art, growing many of the flowers, fruits and vegetables she painted and photographed. For many years, Marcia ran the interior design company, Campbell and Alexander, working for clients in the Philadelphia area. Often frequenting the Design Center in Philadelphia and the Pier show in NYC for inspiration.
An incredibly fashionable woman, Marcia modelled for Nan-Duskins in her twenties, an internationally-known Philadelphia boutique and appeared in Town & Country Magazine and other publications. Her love for fashion developed into a unique personal style. She delighted in wearing interesting and unusual pieces and bold jewelry. Some of which she designed and created on her own. Marcia was always interested in the latest music, literature and biographies and tried her best to stay up with technology, quizzing her children and grandchildren to keep current. She was a regular at many of the Philadelphia symphony series, attending with her late husband Ross and friends, continuing late into her life.
Marcia loved to travel near and far. Covering many countries and parts of the US with Ross and later with kids in tow. Visiting Cuba later in life with friends.
Aside from her family, her primary devotion was for animals. She was rarely without a dog, caring deeply for every bouvier, dachshund, poodle or great dane who was lucky enough to be a member of her home. Jeremiah Wiggle Tail, Daffy, Bijou and Roady just to name a few. As an equestrian, she was intent on improving her dressage level, even in her eighties, training with horses who were much beloved equally for their dressage skills as for their unique personalities. She kept chickens and rabbits at various times throughout her life and her philanthropy was almost wholly focused on organizations that supported the welfare of animals. Marcia had a strong love for the Philadelphia zoo. Always encouraging her kids and grandchildren to visit with her.
Marcia was born February 4, 1938 to William Merritt Weaver Jr.(1912-2003) and Shirley Elizabeth MacKenzie (1914-2011). She is predeceased by her husband, Ross Linton Campbell. She will be missed by her sisters Patricia Wurts of Lafayette Hill, Penn., Wendy Chaix and her husband Laurent of New York, N.Y. and Alison Weaver and her wife, Alison Manning of New York, N.Y., her sons, Ross L. Campbell Jr. and his wife Marcie of Somerville, Mass. and Ian Campbell and his wife Jean of Blue Bell, Penn. and her grandchildren, Fiona, Addison and Liam. And of course, her devoted dog Ruby.
