Lorraine C. Suter
Lorraine Cathlene Suter (nee Helmick), age 77, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of February 27, 2021, in Ambler, PA, after a 6-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Lorraine was the beloved wife of Stuart R. Suter. She treasured her family and was a dedicated mother to Ross Suter, wife Stacey, and Ann Livengood, husband Larry. Her role as Gram was dear to her and she adored her six (6) grandchildren, Kelsey, Christian, and Molly Suter, and Madeline, Griffin, and Corinne Livengood. She was predeceased by her parents, Neil and Doris Helmick, and is survived by her sister, Elaine Hinkle, husband Thomas, and many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was born on June 27, 1943, in Maryland and grew up in Harrisonburg, VA. She was a 1961 graduate of Harrisonburg High School. Shortly after getting married to Stuart in 1963, they moved for education and career over the next decade to Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Vermont. They finally settled in Springfield Montgomery County, PA, where she raised Ross and Ann. Lorraine was active in family, community, school, and church. She made many dear friends in their Flourtown Gardens neighborhood and at Ambler Church of the Brethren where she attended for 52 years.
Her avocation was motherhood, at which she excelled. Lorraine was a supportive constant in her children’s schools and activities, from being president of the Erdenheim Elementary PTA to being room-mom and Springfield High School (Montco.) football and band booster. Lorraine was gracious and was known for making small, appropriately timed gestures that made a big difference to her family and friends. She was a class act who leaves a legacy of quiet generosity, integrity, and kindness.
Family and friends are invited to Lorraine’s Memorial Service on Friday, July 23rd 11:00 AM at Ambler Church of the Brethren, 351 E. Butler Ave, Ambler PA 19002. The family will receive friends starting at 9:30 AM. If you would like to attend the service virtually, the link to the live stream will be available at the church’s website: www.amblercob.org
Lorraine was my cherished friend for more than 50 years and I loved her.. I am so sorry her life was cut short by a terrible cancer and I will miss her dearly. She delighted in gift giving and sharing what she had, and was an empathetic listener. My adult children will always remember her for the Christmas cookies she baked and for allowing them to take a candy cane from the tree as they were leaving our annual Christmas get-togethers. Our deepest sympathy goes to the entire Suter family.
We have been blessed to know Lorraine, and will miss her. Love and prayers to the entire family, and to all of us whose lives she brightened.
Rest in peace, dear friend.
I remember Lorraine from ACOB always a smile on her face. She would always help a neighbor or a friend. Meals for the Interfaith families. She was such a dedicated Mom. She always was in style such a great listener of all old to young. My heartfelt condolences to Stu and Ross and Ann.
We were fortunate to have Lorraine as part of our extended family. She will greatly missed by all that knew her Our love to all the Suters.
We send our condolences, blessings, love and prayers to the entire family. My God be with you all and bring you Peace.
