Lincoln T. Griswold
The Rev. Dr. Lincoln T. Griswold, 85, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Meadowood Retirement Community in Worcester, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Griswold was delivered by his grandfather, Dr. Earl H. Mayne, on March 29, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY to the Rev. Dr. Clayton T. Griswold (born May 5, 1901) and Miriam Rittenhouse Mayne (born April 4, 1901; married to Clayton Griswold June 1, 1925). He is survived by his wife, Jean, sons Scott (Sharon), Kent (Lori) and Kirk (Lynn), 7 grandchildren, his brother, David and sisters, Katharine and Maud Mary.
A third-generation Presbyterian minister and former Moderator of the Presbytery of Philadelphia, Dr. Griswold served several churches in the Philadelphia area: as Senior Pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill (1966-1979), as Interim Pastor of the Newtown Square Presbyterian Church (1983-1985), and as Associate Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansdowne (1958-1960). He had also served churches in Chatham Township, New Jersey (1960-1966) and Fairton, New Jersey ((1955-1958), and during summers beginning in 1972, the Nuangola Chapel on Lake Nuangola where he was an avid sailor.
Beginning in 1985, Dr. Griswold served as Chairman of the Board of Griswold Special Care, the world’s oldest multinational non-medical homecare company which was founded by his wife, Jean, in 1982.
An alumnus of the College of Wooster, Dr. Griswold held graduate degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry) and from Temple University (Master of Sacred Theology in Pastoral Counseling).
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 14th in the Strasburg Auditorium at Meadowood, 3205 Skippack Pike, Worcester, PA following a private burial service.
