Joyce E. Fles

Fles, Joyce E. (nee Wierenga) (July 4, 1941-December 8, 2023). Beloved wife of Robert A. Fles. Loving mother to Jonathan (Barbara) Fles, and Timothy (Meghan) Fles. She will also be missed by her grandson Jake, sister Lois Kragt (and the late Larry) and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her brother Claude and parents Tom and Bernice Wierenga.

Joyce was born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, a graduate from Grand Rapids Christian High School.  She married Robert Fles in 1965.  As newlyweds they lived in East Lansing, then moved to Philadelphia in 1970.

Joyce was a longtime resident of Chestnut Hill (Philadelphia) before moving to Normandy Farms Estates (Blue Bell, PA) in 2015. Prior to retirement, Joyce worked at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill Preschool, then became a teacher’s aide at Chestnut Hill Academy, and later served as the office manager at the Chestnut Hill Pediatric Group.  She was an award-winning member of the Chestnut Hill Garden Club.  Joyce was an avid birder, a committed volunteer, and a good friend to many.

Relatives and friends are invited to Joyce’s memorial service on Friday 12/15/23, 11am at Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce’s name may be made to the J. Mark Vanderbeck Memorial Scholarship Fund, 420 Delaware Dr., Fort Washington, PA 19034, which supports the education and career development of Normandy Farms employees.
