Jane grew up in Chestnut Hill. Her parents, J. Orville & Theda C. Van Horn, owned 410 E. Evergreen Avenue, directly across from “Anglecott” which the family purchased and operated as a nursing home. Her lifelong love of gardening stemmed from spending time with her father in the greenhouses on the Anglecott property where he raised flowers which he sold to the local florists. The Valley Green area of Fairmount Park was also a special place to her, and she took her young children there for walks along the Wissahickon.
She married Emil D. Conti, Jr in 1949 and worked as a nurse as he finished college on the GI Bill. She put nursing on hold while their children were young, but later returned to it during their high school and college days. She loved caring for people and passed that interest in nursing on to her daughter.
In the early 2000’s she moved back to Chestnut Hill, the place she so loved and home to some of her favorite stores and restaurants, and the Chestnut Hill Presbyterian Church where she has been a member most of her life.
Her genuine warmth, love of life, and positive attitude will be missed by all who knew her.
