Harry M. Edenborn III
Harry M. Edenborn III was the son of Harry M. Edenborn Jr. and Elsie Sharp. He was born August 25, 1926 and lived his whole life in Wyndmoor. He attended Springfield Township High School, where he excelled in track and field and football. He was awarded a full football scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania in 1944. Soon after starting at Penn, he was drafted into the US Army, just as WWII was ending. He spent time in Hiroshima, Japan, rebuilding communication lines and helping to restore the city. When he returned to college, he resumed his football career as a fullback and punter for Penn. He still holds the Penn record of ‘most punts in a game’ 80 years later.
Harry graduated with a degree in Mathematics, and married Penn classmate Marilyn Krewson in 1952. They moved to Wyndmoor, living in the home that Harry’s grandfather built. Together they raised three children, and Harry worked as a sales engineer for Honeywell in Fort Washington for more than 40 years. Harry and Marilyn traveled widely during their retirement, and enjoyed their active roles in the Philadelphia Trail Club. They were married for 60+ years before her passing in 2018.
Harry was a fun and positive man. He had a quick wit, and was aways prepared with a silly joke or remark. He had a number of hobbies, including playing the piano, poetry, fishing, baking, and gardening- he was proud of his prized tomatoes every summer. He loved the outdoors, having fond memories of summers spent on his grandparents’ farm as a child. He loved boating and swimming, and yearly family trips to Avalon and Twin Lakes.
Harry remained funny, smart and kind until the day that he died. He will be dearly missed by his children Hank Edenborn (Sherie), Jennifer Edenborn, and Nora Edenborn Zale (TJ); his grandchildren Abigail Edenborn, Carter Vrooman, Jack Vrooman, Emily Blessner, Audrey Blessner, and Danielle Blessner.
Many thanks to his brother-in-law, Stephen Krewson, for his help, care and love for Harry.
Services to remember Harry will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Wyndmoor on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 1pm. Family and friends may pay their respects at the church 12 to 1PM.
