Gregory S. Anderson
Gregory Scott Anderson, age 50, of Mt. Airy, Pennsylvania passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 7th, 2025. He went into cardiac arrest while enjoying one of his favorite pastimes, pick-up basketball with close friends.
Greg is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Melanie (nee Gilliland), and wonderful children Marcus, Mia, and Gus. He will forever be remembered by his siblings Kimberly, Jeffrey, and Christopher.
Greg was born at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio to parents LaMarr and Nanette Anderson of Palmer, Alaska. Living in multiple states as a child, Greg was quickly attuned to the experience of travel that would lead to his many adventures and becoming a global sensation among all that he met. Greg enjoyed both having a good time and working hard and struck a balance between these two with equal finesse.
Graduating from Oscoda High School in Michigan, Greg pursued his studies at the University of Nebraska where he received a Bachelors in Political Science and Masters in English. These studies included time at Lancaster University, England. Greg’s professional path included time at Class.com in Lincoln, Nebraska and Chubb Insurance in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Memories of Greg will live on with all of those he met during his life and travels. His adventures included his engagement and 20th wedding anniversary on the same roof top in Venice, Italy, his marriage on the Oregon Coast, hiking Machu Picchu and Cinque Terra with his wife, relaxing on beaches, lakes, and forests with friends, and exploring Paris with his kids. In his work at Chubb, Greg got to go all over the world – Italy, Ukraine, the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Vietnam, India, Mexico and others. He had fond memories of playing football in England, working on a fishing boat near Alaska, and traveling to games with his family to reconnect with his vast network of friends and fraternity brothers who had settled in different places across the country.
Greg loved the ball field. His passion for the Phillies and baseball stats were only surpassed by his time as a little league coach and proud father. Greg enjoyed countless hours of catch with Marcus, playing boggle with Mia, and Broadway shows with Gus. He loved time with friends – vacationing, cooking, going to pubs, playing sports, and collecting. Greg is also fondly remembered for his enjoyment of Star Wars, which he loved to share with his children, time spent at the lake in the Poconos during summers or holidays with his family, and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, wordplay, cheese, or a good beer.
Although too short, it was a life well-lived-full of boisterous laughter, animated discussion, dedication to family, and love. He fit so much into his short time with us. We’re forever grateful for the time we got.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00pm on Friday, April 18th at the Flourtown Country Club, in Flourtown, Pennsylvania. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a cause that was near and dear to Greg’s heart – the Germantown Life Enrichment Center.
No words can adequately describe the outpouring of support during this difficult time from the community, our friends, and family. The shared heartbreak and desire to assist speaks to the person Greg was in life and the lasting impact he had on all that he met.
My (disbelieving) heart goes out to all of his family as well as us friends. It’s going to be difficult which speaks to what a bright light he was.
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Greg at Lancaster University in England during the 1996-1997 school year when we played football together for the Lancaster Bombers. We immediately became great friends and spent much time together both on and off the field. We even got to play in an alumni game together after our time at University was over. I was able to visit him one summer in Nebraska as well as attend his wedding in Oregon, where I live. We didn’t get to talk nearly as much as I would have liked as the years passed and we lived on opposite sides of the country, but I have always considered him one of my great, lifelong friends. He will be missed sorely, yet remembered fondly. RIP my friend.
We are extremely shocked and sorry to hear of his untimely demise and pray for his soul to rest in peace. Mel, Marcus, Amelia and Gus, our thoughts are with you in this difficult time.
Greg had become a good friend more than a work colleague over the years and while we weren’t always in touch, we made it a point to meet from time to time when he came to the Philly office. I will always have very fond memories of our interactions.
Lots of love, hugs and healing from Hemen, Pritti and Harshil.
May his Noble soul rest in peace and may God give strength to his family.

Still in complete shock about this. I knew Grwg and Mel through my best friend Anessa Whitaker, who was their nanny for 7 years, and is still in their lives to this day. This is such a beautiful family. Greg was always so nice and welcoming towards me. My heart and prayers go out to the family at this time.
A great father, friend, coach; a true mensch – our community has lost a pillar. I’ve met very few people in my life that had Greg’s passionately positive energy. We will miss him tremendously.
He is missed already, he was the most amazing colleague and friend. Kind, generous, thoughtful, and honest. He loved his wife and family so much, he always flowed when speaking of them. I’m so sorry for your loss.
Greg was a great friend, humble & fun loving guy. He will truly be missed. Until we meet again friend.
Such sad news. I never met a more positive, caring , thoughtful person than Greg. The world needs more like him. He will be greatly missed.
