I had the pleasure of working with Gladys at Abington Hospital for over 20 years. She is one of the most outstanding nurses that I have ever met. She was smart, levelheaded, and always put her patient’s first. She could run that hospital all by herself during the off shifts She was a devoted member of the Abington Nursing team and loved by so many. Truly an icon who will be forever missed by many of us who had the pleasure of knowing and loving Gladys!
It was an honour working with Gladys for my entire career at Abington. Her commitment to patients was unparalleled. Gladys was always direct, honest, and respectful. Her commitment to the nurses and peers won her the highest respect. I am truly sorry to hear of her death but I am so grateful to have shared a wonderful work experience with her. Thank you. Gladys for all you gave.
To Elizabeth and the siblings of Gladys Purvis. Your mom was so very proud of you and you could see the glimmer in her eyes as she spoke of you and your accomplishments. You provided your Mom with love, comfort and kindness when she needed it most. Know that your Mom was an accomplished nursing supervisor and was an integral part of providing management to the nursing team on the evening shift at Abington Memorial Hospital. I am remembering your Mom in my prayers. My deepest condolences toyou.
Gladys was a very special person and a wonderful nurse. I too was honored to work with her for so many years. I recall all the memories, the fun, the stressful times and the many times she supported me as a nurse. Gladys was a dedicated mom and raised a beautiful daughter Elizabeth who I got to meet on a few occasions. So true that her face lit up when speaking about how proud she was of Elizabeth. I was so fortunate to have spent some time with Gladys outside of the hospital and got to know her on a more personal level. I’ll never forget when I was able to experience Gladys in action, so calm and relaxed as she recruited me to take the Girl Scout troops camping in the beach of Wildwood. That was truly memorable. Gladys will truly be missed.
