Elizabeth Edelman
Beth Edelman, 85, Social Justice Activist, passed away peacefully at Keystone Hospice after a long battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30pm on Sunday Sept 11th at the Chestnut Hill Hotel. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the Bread and Roses Community Fund, her favorite local social justice organization.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Beth and her family moved to Mt Airy in 1976.
A Mt Airy resident for over 40 years, Beth was an active member of her co-op, serving on the board of The Vernon House Apartments for decades. She was a tireless volunteer for many political campaigns and get out the vote efforts and attended every march on Washington DC from the 1970’s on.
Always supportive of her children, she was instrumental in helping her daughter purchase the Night Kitchen Bakery.
Beth loved to travel and explore different cultures from Russia to Cuba and many destinations in between. She passed on that sense of adventure to her children Amy Edelman and Jonah Edelman,.
She is survived by 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She is remembered for her excellent cooking, feisty spirit and devotion to making the world a more equitable place.
