Elizabeth “Betty” H. Doerr
Elizabeth “Betty” H. Doerr (nee Sauer)(5/22/23) passed away peacefully in the arms of her husband Donald H. Doerr after 62 years of marriage. She is the loving mother of 4 children David (Cindy) Doerr, Jennifer (John) Vasey, Stephen (Amy) Doerr and the late Jonathan (Carolyn) Doerr. Betty has 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Betty will be sorely missed not only by her family but by her many friends. Her deep Christian faith caused her to always be concerned about the welfare of her family and friends, to be there in times of need with unique ideas or help and to talk with them in person or on the phone to help them through a problem or concern. She was a prayer warrior, continually praying for family, friends & others.
Betty and Don met for the first-time during freshmen week at The King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, NY. They dated throughout the 4 years, got engaged in their junior year, graduated from the college, and were married four weeks later. Betty graduated with a BS degree in Biology & Education. She wanted to be a science teacher. That never happened. To get her teachers certification in PA, Pennsylvania required her to take 2 education courses over again at Temple University which she did. However, she became pregnant with David which ended her chance at teaching other then to be a teacher to her children. Through the years as time permitted, she worked at various jobs and finally wound up working for Foulkeways at Gwynedd, a Quaker retirement home, for 25 years as a part-time receptionist. Ultimately, she became a resident there along with her husband Don for 9 years in retirement.
Betty enjoyed reading good books and was a voracious reader. She enjoyed doing all kinds of puzzles. A must was watching the soaps on TV and if she missed an episode used “On Demand” to catch up. She loved her children and their families. She always wanted to know what was happening in their lives as well as what the grandchildren were up to. She loved traveling seeing the various parts of the U.S. as well as other countries. To do that she saved up her money to buy an RV and Betty and her husband spent a good bit of their retirement life traveling the U.S. seeing the sights. She was so impressed with Alaska that she had to take her entire family there to see its beauty and wonders. A true last frontier area.
Her Christian faith, Mennonite Church and Cape May Seaside Home were important parts of her life. Seaside Home is a Christian vacation facility at the shore for women, their children and now families who can’t afford a vacation. Betty served as one of the 24 managers of the Christian organization which has been in operation for over 125 years. She served five years as its president and then as its payroll accountant for several years. She only recently retired as a manager because of health reasons but continued to keep in touch & alert to their operations as an important part of her life & prayers.

Betty was a wonderful friend and I will never forget how much she loved her family and friends especially those from Seaside Home. She was so loved by everyone there. I’m so sorry for her family but I know she is in Heaven with her Savior.
