Dr. Roberta E. Swade
Dr. Roberta Edythe (Rideout) Swade of Erdenheim, PA passed away peacefully on December 28tth 2020 at the age of 86. Roberta was born in Gillespie Settlement, NB, Canada. She was one of eleven children. She was the daughter of the Late Frank Walker Henry and Mary Olivia (Hitchcock) Rideout of New Brunswick Canada.
She is predeceased by her first husband Thomas J Liberty, her second husband Edward F Swade, her siblings: Ernest E Rideout, Mary E Rideout, Walker H Rideout, Samuel Rideout, Hallum H Rideout, Hurlow R Rideout, Elizabeth Rideout, Frank C Rideout, David A Rideout, and her surviving brother Donald A Rideout of NB Canada.
Roberta, known as Robin to her friends, leaves behind 5 children: Thomas and Margaret Liberty, Kathryn and Stephen Cantando, Robin and Linda Liberty, David and Michelle Liberty, Edward and Sherri Swade; 11 grandchildren, Amanda, Laura, Ricky (Deceased), Christopher, Matthew, Kimberly, Kristin, Jarod, Collin, Justin, and Jeremy; and 7 great-grandchildren, Christian, Dylan, Nolan, Jacob, Ezio, Amelia, and Gerardo.
She married Thomas J Liberty of Bristol, Pa in 1954 and moved to the US and became a US citizen on December 23rd, 1959. She attended Trenton State College and received her BSA for Teaching in 1963. She continued her education at Trenton State College and received her Masters’ Degree for Education in 1965. She remarried in 1969 to Edward F Swade, of Erdenheim, Pa and continued her education goals. She reached her final goal in 1971 when she received her Doctorate Of Education from Temple University.
Roberta was a devoted educator and believed in the power of learning. She dedicated her life to teaching reading to numerous students who remember her fondly. She worked many years for the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit as a Reading Specialist. She has spent her whole life teaching and tutoring students. Reading was a passion that she wanted to share with others.
Roberta had a strong sense of family that she instilled in her children and made numerous trips to visit her family in Canada and up and down the East Coast on a regular basis and for special occasions. She happily bragged about her children and grandchildren and their accomplishments. She loved to escape every summer to her Lake House in Canada to be with family and enjoy a summer of reading.
Religion and volunteer work were a big part of her life. She was very involved in her church, attended Bible Study, and went on mission trips with her church to other countries to help share her beliefs with others. She also volunteered at libraries and homeless shelters in the area.
Her Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on January 15th, 2021 at her church, The Fairview Village Church Of The Nazarene, 3044 W Germantown Pike, Eagleville, Pa. 19403. Her children will lay Roberta’s ashes to rest, following the memorial service, with her late beloved husband Edward F. Swade at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery family plot.

I was sorry to hear of Robyn’s death and offer my condolences to her family. I worked with Robyn at the IU and found her to be a kind,positive and compassionate person.
