Beryl A. Linsley
Beryl Audrey (White) Linsley passed away July 26, 2018 in Hatboro, PA. She was born in Leicester, England on October 17, 1923 to John and Beatrice White. Her family owned a green grocer in Leicester where she worked until joining the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force, an integral working force of the Royal Air Force. Beryl was assigned as a postal clerk.
While on leave to help out with the birth of her brother John, Beryl met her future husband, Leonard, who was serving in the US Air Force. They married May 30, 1945, although she had to wait until the following January until she could get passage to the US to join him in Philadelphia.
Beryl stayed in touch with many of the war brides she met on the ship. She was an active member of the Daughters of the British Empire, an organization that fundraises for four retirement homes, and celebrates British cultural traditions.
Leonard and Beryl lived in Oreland most of their lives, moving to Gloria Dei Farms in Hatboro in June, 2003. They traveled many times to England, with other trips to Europe, Bermuda, Canada, and the US.
Beryl was predeceased by her husband Leonard in April 2007. She is survived by her children, Barry Linsley of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Karen O’Neil (Dwight) of East Chatham, NY, and Sandy DeMello (Paul) of Bedford, NH. and her grandchildren Alison and Zachary O’Neil, and Samantha and Elaina DeMello.
Services are August 3 at 11am at the McCausland Chapel at St. Thomas’ Whitemarsh, with internment at the Memorial Garden.
