Benjamin “Ben” Colwell

Benjamin “Ben” Colwell, 54, of Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with the lasting effects of a traumatic injury. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ben was known for his sharp mind, dry humor, and an unwavering resilience that carried him through challenges that few individuals ever face.

Ben attended St. Jerome Elementary School and later Central High School, where his academic strengths were recognized early. He participated in the city’s Mentally Gifted program and even performed in operas at the Academy of Music — experiences he carried with pride throughout his life. He went on to build an honest, hardworking career, running a small business defined by integrity and a straightforward approach that reflected who he was at his core.

Despite enduring extraordinary physical hardship in his later years, Ben remained intellectually curious, fiercely independent in spirit, and appreciative of the small joys that stayed within reach. His relationships were complex, yet the connections that shaped his early life remained part of his story, held in his own way and on his own terms.

Ben will be remembered for his strength, his wit, and the unmistakable honesty with which he told his story — fully, plainly, and without apology. Funeral arrangements will be private.
