Hoagland, Barbara J. (September 25, 2017). Loving mother to Peter D. (Deborah) Hoagland Jr., Jennifer L. (Steven Weissman) Hoagland, and Jeanel Hoagland. She also will be missed by her grandchildren, Christopher, Ethan, Tara, Alexis and Adam, and great grandchildren Jamie, Ava and Garret, as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces!
Barbara grew up in Winter Haven Florida, and is survived by her sister Mary Mann, her brother William (Amy) Johnson and her step-brother Jimmy (Barbara) Browning. She was pre-deceased by her parents Josephine Johnson Browning and William Clyde Johnson and her step-father Cecil Browning.
Barbara enjoyed teaching high school mathematics. She taught at Springfield Township High School in Erdenheim, Pennsylvania from 1968 to 1997. After retiring from Springfield, she continued to teach mathematics at Akiba Hebrew Academy, now known as the Jack M. Barack Hebrew Academy. While teaching at Springfield, Barbara also served as the building representative and treasurer of the teachers’ union, the Springfield Township Education Association. She also was class advisor for several classes while at Springfield, and served as the chair of the math departments at both Springfield and Akiba.
Upon really retiring as a teacher, Barbara enjoyed staying at the New Jersey shore, traveling to Florida and North Carolina, and spending time with her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara will be remembered for her great sense of humor, contagious belly laughs, beautiful handmade crocheted afghans, numerous and exotic plants, and well-used books!
Relatives, friends and former colleagues and students are invited to Barbara’s Memorial Service Saturday November 11th 11 am-1 pm at the Flourtown Country Club. Family will greet guests from 11-12 noon, followed by the Memorial Service. Interment Private.
