A. Peter Torello
Torello, A. Peter Born January 9, 1936, Age 81 of Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell passed away August 27, 2017. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Huber). Loving father to Sharon L., and Scott R. Torello. Survived by sister Suzan Lifschitz of Rhode Island. He attended school in Haverford Township and studied electrical engineering at Drexel University. Pete’s career included working for Burroughs, Sperry Gyroscope, Westinghouse, and Univac. Later, Pete made a career change to quality control in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.
Peter’s interests were wide-ranging which included photography, computers, bicycling, and ice dancing with his wife Joan at the Wissahickon Skating Club. The family enjoyed fifty years of camping, progressing from a tent to a 5thwheel trailer traveling to all 50 states including Alaska. He also served on committees and boards at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill and Normandy Farms Estates.
Peter’s father was a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra in the double bass section along with his namesake, grandfather Anton Torello, and uncle Carl Torello. Anton immigrated from Barcelona, Spain in 1909 and also taught at the Curtis Institute of Music.
Relatives and friends are invited to Peter’s Memorial Service Thursday 8/31, 2pm at The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers contributions in Peter’s name may be made to The Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill 8855 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118.
