Andrew Scott Holmes
Andrew Scott Holmes, known as Scott, passed away on August 5, 2025, at Bryn Mawr Hospital at the age of 85.
Born on August 9, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Lydia “Pat” Holmes and Howard Holmes. He was preceded in death by his brother Alan “Buzzy” Holmes and his sister Christy Holmes.
Scott graduated from Germantown Academy in 1957 and earned both a B.S. and M.S. in civil engineering from Cornell University in 1961. At Cornell, he was a member of ROTC, Psi Upsilon fraternity, the men’s soccer team, serving as captain his senior year, and was elected to the Sphinx Head Senior Honor Society. He later served in the U.S. Army, decommissioning the Watertown Arsenal in Massachusetts, before completing an MBA at the Wharton School in 1964.
Scott started his career at IBM in sales. He had a successful career as Vice President of Sales for Shared Medical Systems in Great Valley, PA. He was also an avid athlete who loved squash, tennis, jogging, and golf. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Germantown Academy for many years and served as Treasurer and President. He was a member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club and Sunnybrook Golf Club.
He is survived by his ex-wife Joan R. Holmes, his son Andrew S. Holmes, Jr., his daughter Gray R. Hughes, son-in-law William S. Hughes, and beloved grandchildren Peter, Whitney, and Alexander Hughes.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Chestnut Hill, on November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Germantown Academy (donate here ).
