Emily Newbold
Emily Newbold: May 8, 1943 to May 13, 2026
Emily Newbold was born on May 8, 1943, in Virginia, to Harry and Emily Trefz, while her father was stationed at Fort Gregg-Adams. She grew up in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, and earned her undergraduate degree from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, her Master’s in Music from Temple University, and her Doctorate in Music from Combs College of Music.
Emily spent the majority of her career as a professor of flute and music at West Chester University, where founded and conducted the flute ensemble, and performed as a guest with orchestras throughout the Philadelphia area.
Emily was married to Arthur Emlen Newbold III, who passed away in 1996. Together they enjoyed music, theater, good food and summers in Maine. Emily is survived by her two children, Alexandra Newbold and J. Christopher Swartley.
Relatives and friends are invited to Emily’s viewing Wednesday 5/20, 10 to 11am, at Craft funeral Home of Erdenheim, 814 Bethlehem Pike, Erdenheim, PA 19038. Her funeral service will follow 11:30am at St Thomas Church Whitemarsh, 7020 Camp Hill Rd., Fort Washington, PA 19034. Interment St Thomas Church Whitemarsh. In lieu of flowers contributions in Emily’s name may be made to the St. Thomas’ Music Fund.
