George H. Rothblat, PhD

George Harris Rothblat, age 90 passed away in Lafayette Hill, PA. George was born in Willimantic, CT., son of Max Rothblat and Helen Leipner.
George earned his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania where he spent the majority of his professional life following his position as chairman of the biochemistry department at Medical College of Pennsylvania. He was a pioneering figure in lipid research and a distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania. He leaves a legacy that fundamentally reshaped the understanding of cholesterol metabolism and cardiovascular disease.
Throughout his scientific career George was proud to serve as mentor to many Ph.D. and Master’s degree students, many of whom went on to have distinguished careers in science.
He is survived by his family, son David (Ilene), daughter Debbie, grandchildren Michael and Molly. He is predeceased by brother, Larry. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his memory to the American Heart Association.
