Patricia Knox Bailey
Patricia Knox Bailey died peacefully on November 19, 2022. She was 99 years old. She was the daughter of Florence Welsh and Paul W. Knox. She was predeceased by a brother, John Knox.
Patty attended the Stevens School for Girls in Philadelphia and attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. In 1944, she married Maxwell Brown, who died in action in the Battle of the Bulge in January 1945 during WW II. Patty did her share of helping with the war effort by volunteering at the Red Cross in Philadelphia.
She taught kindergarten at the Stevens School from 1947 to 1951. In 1950, Patty married Robert S. Bailey, whom she met thanks to her brother Rick who met Bob at Lafayette College. They had 59 wonderful years together until Bob passed away in 2009. Patty and Bob had three children: Ellen B Pemberton (Clifford), Robert S. Bailey, Jr. (Wendelyn, deceased) and Christopher K. Bailey (Betsy). She is survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Richard H. Knox (Eileen), a sister-in-law, Shirley Huntington, and many nieces and nephews.
Patty was a constant volunteer and especially talented in flower arranging. She was on the Flower Guild at St. Thomas for many years and made weekly arrangements for Foulkeways Retirement Home where she lived for the past thirteen years. Patty was always active in her children’s schools, never missed a grandchild’s sports game and needlepointed beautiful Christmas stockings for her great grandchildren.
Patty loved the Phillies and was thrilled this year when the team made it to the World Series. She loved people and was blessed with good friends and relatives who visited her often. Patty was positive, never complained, strong, and loved to laugh. No one made her laugh more than her husband, Bob.
A service will be held for her at St. Thomas Church, Whitemarsh on Monday, December 12, at 11.30 a.m.
