I knew Hyacinth when my husband and I were missionaries in Argentina from 1966-1970. She was a delightful person and a lovely pianist. I was a singer, and we did several recitals together on the campus of the Lutheran seminary in Jose C. Paz where my husband Manfred was a professor. Her cheerful spirit was always a source of joy and a beacon of hope in an often challenging ministry.
I attended Bethel Lutheran Church from 1980 – 1985. Pastor Hy was such an incredible mentor to me during those early pre-teen and early teen years. I was a budding singer and she encouraged me in my musical pursuits. Including having me sing with the choir for the Spanish service. Of all of the cherished memories I have of Pastor Hy, the one that I remember so clearly was the morning of her wedding when she asked me to fill in as soloist. I learned “Entreat me not to Leave Thee” all morning to sing it for the wedding in the afternoon. I was terrified and elated at the same time. She was brave to entrust such a task to a 13 year old!
I will always cherish my memories of Hy and all that the Lord has done in our lives through hers.
Rest in the eternal love of the Lord.
