Gilbert W. Rex
Rex, Gilbert William age 92 (April 13, 2015) Husband of the late Katharine (nee) Rich. Beloved Father of G. Steven Rex of Erdenheim, Marcia Rex Matera of Silver Spring, MD and Renee R. Stein of Lansdale. Grandfather of Tara Feretti, Jarrod Rex, Nicole Cancelliere, Ryan Rex, Nathan Weiss, Carin Weiss, Lauren Stone and Christopher Stein. Great Grandfather of 17.Gil was a lifelong resident of Whitemarsh and Springfield Twps. He graduated from Springfield Township High School, married his high school sweetheart and enjoyed 64 years with her. He was known by all as a devoted family man who was a kind and gentle soul. Gil served as a Staff Sargent in the 3rd Army 65th Division Infantry in WW II and also served in the Korean War. He worked as a master plumber with the family business and later partnered with his son to create Rex & Sons Plumbing and Heating. He was a member for 72 years at First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, Flourtown, PA where he served as an Elder. Gil was a member of the American Legion, Post 10 as well as a life member of the AM VETS Post 187 of Towanda, PA. Gil shared years of happy memories with his family and friends at his home in Avalon. In his later years he enjoyed trips to Dushore, PA. All will miss his “sparkling blue eyes”. Relatives and friends are invited to Gil’s Funeral Service Friday April 17th 11am First Presbyterian Church of Springfield Flourtown where friends may call 9:30am. Interment George Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gil’s name may be made to William Bolton Dixon American Legion Post 10, 493 S. Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington PA, 19034-2315
