Eleanor W. Kolb
Kolb. Eleanor W. (nee Wiggins) (July 28, 2020). Beloved wife of the late John F. Kolb Jr. and loving mother to Donald L. (Mary Alyce) Kolb and Richard A. (Diane) Kolb. Grandmother of Jennifer Edwards, Chad Kolb, Justin Kolb, Jonathan Kolb, and the late William Potts. Great grandmother of Caitlyn Potts and Madelyne Kolb. Eleanor’s family would like to thank you for your thoughts and prayers at this time. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. Interment will be at the Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd in East Falls.
Originally from Uniontown, PA., Eleanor came to Philadelphia at the age of 19 to attend the Episcopal Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1937 and practiced as a nurse for several years thereafter. She was married in 1940, and except for the war years, she lived with her family, and later independently, at her home in Germantown until 2017. That year, she moved to an assisted living community where she resided until her passing at age 104 – 5 weeks shy of her 105th birthday. Her life after her children were born was largely as a homemaker and mother. She was part of a generation of women who sacrificed all for the good of her family. She lived modestly but was tenacious in maintaining what is often referred to as “family values”. Her strength of character, unwavering faith and a strong will were all unquestionably demonstrated in a long life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name can be made to the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania, to recognize the many years Mother worked as a volunteer nursing aide for the agency in her community.
