Born in Philadelphia on January 24th, 1952, Dorothy grew up on Terminal Ave in Erdenheim, Pennsylvania with her parents and her older brother and sister graduating from Springfield High School in 1969. Dorothy met her husband, Kevin MacElroy, at a freshman mixer at Penn State-Ogontz, and by all accounts, it was love at first sight. Dorothy was a compassionate, energetic, giving mother to her two sons, Dan and Ryan. She was a lifelong dedicated teacher whose career spanned 4 decades, most notably at Caravel Academy in Bear, DE for 20 years (1990-2010) where both her boys attended and graduated.
Dorothy’s love for her four grandchildren Reagan & Jackson, Kayley & Bryce was limitless. In her retirement years, Dorothy loved nothing more than spending time with them, watching them grow through visits and frequent Facetime calls. She was an avid sports fan who never missed one of her grandkids’ games. She especially enjoyed watching her beloved Eagles, Phillies, and Nittany Lions compete.
Dorothy loved Jesus with her whole heart and found joy in reading the book of Psalms. She served in the preschool at St. Mark’s UMC in Wilmington, DE, and directed vacation bible school there. She was a devoted and active member of Cornerstone UMC in Bear, DE, and in her retirement in Texas, was a faithful church member, most recently at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship – Frisco.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Robert H. Bihn, and mother, E. Madelyn (Blatz) Bihn, and brother Charles R. Bihn.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin A. MacElroy, her sons, Daniel K. (Keriann) MacElroy and Ryan J. (Melissa) MacElroy, grandchildren Reagan, Jackson, Kayley, and Bryce, and sister, Virginia M. Griffith.
