Barbara P. Spaeth
After a long struggle with illness, Barbara Petty Spaeth passed away peacefully in her home on the evening of February 13th, surrounded by her family Barbara was 72 years old. A retired educator, she had a lifelong hunger for knowledge and had a particular fondness for music, poetry, and foreign languages.
Barbara graduated Springfield High School, and then attended Bryn Mawr College, graduating in 1970. She later earned a Masters in Education from Chestnut Hill College.
After being married to Harry (Hap) Spaeth in 1972 at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, the couple resided in Chestnut Hill for many years as the raised their family.
Besides being a Member and Elder of PCCH, Barbara was a member of the Island Heights Yacht Club in New Jersey where the family has spent their summers for five generations.
Barbara is survived by her husband; her mother, Euterpe Petty and her sister Bonnie Chase and husband Bob, all of Plymouth Massachusetts; her son Peter Spaeth and his wife Jennifer of Oreland, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Jennifer Martin, and Jennifer’s children, Sam and Katie of Petaluma, California.
A service for family members only will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill on February 22, 2021.
A memorial Service will also be scheduled for a later date yet to be determined.
