Norma Rundbaken
Norma Rundbaken (nee Fetterolf), 75, of Springfield, PA, passed away on September 4, 2024.
Norma was born on July 30, 1949, to Norman and Viola Fetterolf of Shamokin, PA. She arrived five minutes before Linda, her twin sister, and 12 and 9 years after her sister Deanna and brother Barry.
After Norma graduated from Shamokin Area High School in 1967, with varsity letters in basketball despite being 5’ tall, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science-Mathematics at Millersville State College followed by a Master of Education at Penn State University. She taught high school math at Ridley School District for seven years, before making a pivot to both teaching and practicing accounting. She taught at Delaware County Community College and Bradford Business School while working as a tax accountant and bookkeeper for Price Waterhouse & Co in Philadelphia, PA.
In 1982, Norma resigned from her employers as she looked forward to a new challenge: starting a family. Norma and Roger had two children, Ellen and Susan, in Springfield, PA. Norma led vacation bible school and Girl Scouts, chaperoned school trips, and planned detailed itineraries for family vacations from the Jersey Shore to California and Vermont to Florida. Norma prioritized time with family and friends, cultivating strong relationships and not letting a holiday go by without a BBQ or dinner. Regular trips to Pittsburgh to visit her sister and sister’s family and Hershey to visit her cousins, aunts, and uncles were treasured memories. All the while, she launched a successful bookkeeping and accounting business, maintaining flexibility for her family while helping friends, businesses, and non-profits stay on top of their finances.
In 2012, Norma earned her favorite title: Grandma. Watching Ryan, Logan, Cory, and Lily grow brought Norma well-deserved joy in retirement. As did extending her family to include her favorite sons-in-law, Mike and Craig.
Norma kept everyone on their toes with her quick wit, dry sense of humor, and ability to win most card games. She didn’t sugar coat much, so you knew it was earned when she offered praise. Norma took pride in being helpful and got energy from solving a good puzzle, theoretical or physical. Her personality was one-of-a-kind and will deeply be missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to Norma’s visitation Saturday 9/14, 11 am to 12 noon at Teca Newtown Square, 191 S. Newtown Street Rd., Newtown Square, PA 19073. Her memorial service will follow at 12 noon in the same location. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norma’s name may be made to Appalachia Service Project, Penn State Dance Marathon, or your favorite charity.
