So sorry for the loss of your dad. He was an amazing man and a good friend to many, including the Spink’s.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of Doc Rude from Ocean City. There were so many funny stories our parents would tell while sitting on the beach. As well as watching all the slides of Fred and Ruth Ann’s travels across the world. And of course we enjoyed ice cream while watching. All the bike rides to the boardwalk with them on the tandem bike and outings on the Sun Fish sailboat will always be endearing memories for me. My peace be with you at this time

So sorry to hear of the loss of Doc Rude. As Doreen wrote, I have so many precious memories of your father and mother in Ocean City. Your father was an amazing man and I loved hearing his stories and seeing his slides of all your family adventures. May God grant you peace at this time as you all celebrate his life and move forward.

We send our condolences to the extended Rude family. We feel blessed to have known both Ruth Ann and Fred for several years, visiting with them at their home in Glenside and also joining them for dinner at the Hill. Since we have just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary, we had only to look to Ruth and Fred to see how it was done.

Fred treated our “girls,” Martha and Jennie at his hospital and never failed to ask about them. His compassion, intellect, and gentle manner will be missed. May his family take comfort in knowing how many lives he touched in his life’s journey. The Showlers (Tom and Jan )

My sincere condolences to Dr. Rude’s family. I got my first teenage job at Dr. Rude’s Animal Hospital. I really learned a lot from him. He was a fantastic boss and mentor to me and all the other teenagers that worked at the animal hospital. Rest In Peace.

Dr. Rude employed me throughout veterinary school and then let me work for him a couple of weeks before I started my internship. He was an inspiration to me as a professional and as a family man. I was blessed to have known him and be guided by him during an impressionable time of my life. I continue to think of him often.

  • To all who loved Fred, I was so so sorry to hear of his loss when I was reading JAVMA. Our mutual beloved friend, teacher and mentor, Joan O’Brien, introduced us. He was a steadfast and positive alumni presence at Penn Vet for all of my almost 40 years there. And after I became Dean, I was so honored to be invited to speak at the retirement village. He was warm, kind, dedicated and just a dear friend. The world is a little bit duller and sadder without him.

  • I just went by dr and mrs Rude’s former home in glen side and googles to see if dr Rude was still with us. Dr Rude took care of our pets and was over the top caring . He shared his time and his knowledge with no restraint. Many an emergency was treated at his home in his mini office. Sad for your loss , but knowing that his Ruth Ann was waiting for him made leaving his family on earth a bit easier.
